About

Gay-OK is a play on the phrase ‘A-OK’ which means ‘All OK’, as well as a push-back against the phrase “Don’t Say Gay” which originates in hateful U.S. legislature.

Gay-OK.org was created by a queer educator who has witnessed a disconnect between the push for LGBTQ+ inclusion in educational settings, and the lack of skillful (sometimes willful) implementation.

It all starts with language. This site aims to examine, as well as disrupt dominant, heteronormative narratives surrounding gender and sexuality. The topics and resources presented here are meant to encourage educators to critically examine their own language use as it relates to LGBTQ+ inclusion, as well as broader social discourses which contribute to the ongoing marginalization of those in the LGBTQ+ community.
